Part One
If you made this statement to most people today, they would have no idea of what you were talking about. When I say your feast days, I am referring to the feast of YHWH which were given to his people and are listed in the 23rd chapter of Leviticus. This lesson will give an overview of the feast days as a whole. Following lessons will address each feast day on an individual basis. We will try to answer the most common questions concerning the feast days, such as what was there purpose? Do they still serve a purpose? Were they done away with? Aren’t they Old Testament days? The answers may surprise you and in some cases make people upset and angry. I believe it was Ben Franklin who said, "the truth doesn’t hurt unless it ought to". If you are not observing the feast days of Yahweh, I encourage you to go through this study with an open mind and an open heart. Remember that when the savior walked this earth, one of the biggest battles he faced was in the traditions that man had embraced. Mark 7.9 Yahshua said" full well ye reject the commandment of Yahweh, that ye may keep your own tradition". Also in Matthew 15.9 he said "But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men".
Let’s begin with a listing of each day. The days can be divided into the early or spring feast days and the later or fall feast days. The spring days are-
1. Passover
2. Unleavened (last one week)
3. Pentecost or Feast of Weeks
The fall days are-
Trumpets
Atonement
Tabernacles or Booths( last one week)
Last Great Day
Notice that there are 7 set apart observances. The # 7 is a special
number to Yahweh. While that is a subject for another time; let me set
forth the following as examples.
Seven days in the week
Seven flames on the candle stick in the temple
Seven assemblies listed in Revelation
Seven spirits of Yahweh-listed many places
Seven times seventy- how many times do we forgive
Seven times seven- 49 years between years of Jubilee
Seven Sabbaths- the number of Sabbaths counted until Pentecost
Now we will list them again with what each day represented. Some represent
a past event and some represent an event yet to happen. As we list these,
notice that we are establishing a time line or blue print of Yahweh’s plan
for man.
Passover-a memorial decreed by Moses to remember the night of Passover
by YHWH when he took the first born of those who had not applied the blood
to the doorpost. Exodus 12.12. This was also a foreshadowing of Yahshua
who would become the Passover lamb. 1st Peter 1.19, John 1.29, Revelation
5.6.
Feast of unleavened-Exodus 13.4-10. This week instituted to remind
the Israelites of their leaving captivity and bondage. Both of those terms
are used to represent sin and the condition of sin. Paul wrote in Romans
8.15 "We have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye
have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father. In 1st
Corinthians 5.7 Paul wrote, " purge out therefore the old leaven, that
ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even the Messiah our Passover
is sacrificed for us: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven,
neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened
bread of sincerity and truth.
3. Feast of Weeks or Pentecost-Leviticus 23.15+16. We find this feast
called Pentecost in the new
Testament. It was the feast the disciples were keeping in Acts chapter 2. Pentecost means 50th. In the
New Testament it is referred to in Acts 20.16 and 1st Corinthians 16.8.
4. Feast of Trumpets- A day for the blowing of trumpets. Trumpets were used for several purposes.
It signaled the presence of YHWH. Exodus 19.16-19. Announced the beginning of a feast. Leviticus. 23:23-25. Calling of the assembly. Numbers 10: 2-6. But perhaps the most significant aspect of trumpets is that in just about every passage of scripture that refers to the return of Yahshua, the blowing of a trumpet is mentioned. 1 Thessalonians 4:16. Matthew 24:31.
Day of Atonement- This set apart day is a day like no other. Its meaning
is very deep. The rituals
Involved represented the transfer of guilt. Leviticus 16. It is a day
of humility and a time to afflict your self. Leviticus 16:31. Most people
traditionally afflict themselves with a fast. In Acts 27:9 the apostle
Paul refers to the fast (Day of Atonement) being already past.
Feast of Tabernacles or booths, Leviticus 23. 34 This feast is for one
week. For this week you are to
dwell in booths to remind us of the time spent dwelling in booth when
we came out of Egypt. This is
Also a foreshadowing of the 1000 year reign in the kingdom. This feast is also kept in the kingdom
and those who refuse will have drought. Zechariah 14:16.
Last Great Day- This occurs at the end of Tabernacles or the 8th day.
This day is symbolic of the White
Throne Judgement that occurs at the end of the 1000-year reign. Revelation
20:11. It should be noted
That the Feast begins with an 8 day feast (Passover and Unleavened) and end with an 8-day Feast
(Tabernacles and Last Great Day).
John 5: 39. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
When Yahshua spoke these words, he was also referring to the Feast Days.
For each of these days have a special meaning and are a foreshadowing of
an event that has or will occur. In part two we shall look at Passover
and it’s meaning. We shall also look at how it testifies of Yahshua.
